Surrey Woodfuel Challenge

The Forestry Commission would like to make you aware of the Surrey Woodfuel Challenge, to be held on the 7th of October.  This event follows on from a very successful event last year where the Chief Executive of Surrey County Council (David McNulty) announced that the County Council's "preferred position is that if we put heating sources in, we expect them to be wood fuel unless it can be demonstrated that there are reasons why it is not cost-effective or suitable."

The event is also being held in association with the Surrey Hills Wood Fair, which is a public event being held over the weekend of the 8th/ 9th of October.  For more information please visit the website: www.surreyhillswoodfair.co.uk.  Both of these events are supported by the Forestry Commission.

Clear About Carbon Event - Carbon Matters

Tuesday 11th October

09:00 – 13:00hrs

Eden Project

You can't escape it, you daren't ignore it.

On the TV, radio and in the newspapers, academics, politicians, journalists, civil servants, big business - everyone's talking about carbon reduction and wondering how its going to impact on them.

From investing in the low carbon economy to measuring your carbon footprint, going carbon neutral to becoming carbon literate, it's real and it's here now.

Cabinet ministers have agreed a far-reaching, legally binding "green deal" that will commit the UK to two decades of drastic cuts in carbon emissions. There will be sweeping changes to the way that businesses operate, deal with customers and trade with each other.

Carbon reduction policies are going to affect the way you run your business in Cornwall.

But how will businesses in Cornwall react and adapt? Changes in policies are being written as we speak – real change is happening locally and businesses will have to engage in the carbon reduction process and change if they want to compete and survive.

The massive public sector spend is using procurement as a key tool to drive the agenda on low carbon. What are the opportunities here for local businesses?

Big business and commerce is turning to its supply chain to drive down costs and increase shareholder value. Businesses should realise that carbon accounting will become as important as their financial accounting and just like computers, information technology and the digital revolution, carbon will become part of the daily narrative of all business activities.

Are you ready to respond positively?

On Tuesday 11th October a packed half-day conference is being hosted at Eden that will examine these issues and start to answer some of the questions that need responses and action.
