Biomass is material derived from living, or recently living biological organisms. Such a broad spectrum of potential fuels relies on a wide range of techniques to extract useful energy. One of the simplest is burning wood on an open fire to obtain heat but this is a very inefficient use of a resource. However, the controlled burning of biomass can be a very efficient way of producing useful energy
The UK does not have a dedicated trade association for biomass although many companies have their own information portals. For unbiased information, the European Biomass Association (AEBIOM) offers information and guidance from across Europe, where many countries have a far more advanced biomass industry than that of the UK (see: http://www.aebiom.org/?cat=3).
